About The Festival
Kansai Queer Film Festival (KQFF) screens works dealing with diverse aspects of gender, sex and sexuality. In its third year this year, last year’s KQFF took place over five days and was very well received with a total of around 1600 participants. Following on this success, this year’s festival will again take place over five days with a total of fourteen programmes.
The programme of this year’s KQFF is a mixture of films from Tokyo International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival* and a majority of KQFF-only items. Most of the films have never been screened in Kansai before, and some will be making their Japan premiere at KQFF.
In addition, KQFF 2007 is treading new ground with live performance, and much improved representation of FtM transgender** experiences in our programme selection.
Notes:
*Tokyo International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival (TILGFF) is one of the largest LGBT/Queer film festivals in Asia. In its sixteenth year this year, it will run from 12-16 July. In addition to TILGFF and KQFF, last year Japanese LGBT/Queer film festivals were held in Kagawa, Kyoto, Aomori and Hokkaido.
**Transgender (or trans) is an umbrella term referring to people who live and/or identify as a gender other than that which they were assigned at birth. Female to Male (FtM) transgender people are people who were birth-assigned as “female” and identify and/or live as “male”.
